Today’s Spring Thing Trend Breakdown…TRACK PANTS!! I’m taking your questions and giving you shopping suggestions later today, but here is all the styling info you need to get you started with this trend 🤩

Try not to overthink these, and use them in the same way that you would utilize denim in your outfits. (Think of these as denim’s funky older cousin, the one who went to that weird art school and knows the best most obscure rock bands.) There are two rules, and two rules ONLY when styling these:
1. Elevate your footwear. These pants are inherently casual, and we have to work to elevate them beyond loungewear. Your shoes are the easiest and most effective place to start on that mission.
2. Buy the shape of pant that is best for the shape of your body. It may seem like wide legged track pants are your only option out there, but trust me: there is a wide variety of shapes and styles within this trend for us to shop. Don’t feel pressured into buying the shape you feel is the trendiest if it’s not something that feels good when you wear it. Slow down, do a little more digging…or hire a professional to do your digging 🙋🏻‍♀️…and make sure you pick a pair will love to wear.

Today’s Reset task: sorting your wardrobe items by event type or PURPOSE first- rather than by color or simple item type.

The NUMBER ONE organizational tip I can give you this week- yes, even better than my golden standard under the bed bins- is to sort your items by their event/purpose. Think: a work ‘section’; a ‘basics’ section; the ‘casual mom event section’.
.
For some of us, this feels like CHAOS- “but Riley, this giant rainbow is so pretty”. But I’m here to tell you it creates CALM- by allowing you to easily, quickly create outfits for the event you are getting ready for. Whether you want to rule a board meeting or look cute getting groceries- it’s more FUN when all of your options are close at hand, and clearly visible. Today’s Reset task: identifying how to get your total closet in one space; and if that’s not a possibility, get your priority needs ALL in your primary dressing space! When we have all (or at least the most key) pieces together and visible, we are more likely to get creative, mix and match, and have FUN with our wardrobes!
Why does it matter if your blazers are in your spare closet and the rest of your work wardrobe is in your bedroom? Or if your jeans are in a dresser 50 feet from your closet? 🚨 because WHERE and HOW you store your items has just as much of an impact on outfit creation as whether you LOVE the item 🚨 read that again!!

When items we are wearing to the same event are stored in separate places, we create extra WORK in our outfitting process. The whole point of getting dressed is that it’s EASY AND FUN…toggling between two different spaces to find the perfect blazer or shoes doesn’t sound like either of those things!

January Style Reset: Jan 9th

Today, after all of our reflection, we are finally taking a little ACTION!! I’d love to hear in the comments what you are doing today 😊

Yesterday we looked at imbalances in our wardrobes- dress code categories where we really have too little or too much of our closet dedicated to it, based on the time we spend wearing that dress code category. Today, we determine which imbalance is top priority, and decide on an action step to take.
.
True story: I spend 5-7 hours of my week (10% of my waking hours) in athleisure. And I have…what feels like 1000 sweatshirts. It’s taking up closet space I could use for sweaters and tops for my daily workwear (which is 50% of my time). It’s creating overwhelm, and there’s no way I will ever wear it all- I can’t even see it all well! It’s the #1 closet clutter for me, and an action item I’m taking is to get rid of 5 sweatshirts today. Maybe YOU noticed yesterday that you need workwear- today you could build a Pinterest board for work inspiration. (Which can take us back to some week one analysis 😜)
.
Good action begets more good action- when you take a step to address a closet issue, it feels so good you’ll want to keep going. So while 5 sweatshirts won’t solve my closet clutter, it WILL get the ball rolling and I’m more likely to keep purging.
.

January Style Reset: Jan 8th

Today, we are looking at our wardrobes- finally!! It only took us 8 days of a style reset to get to the CLOTHES!!We are taking a hard look at what we have, and WHERE we can wear it.

Yesterday we determined what dress codes our lifestyle contained, and how much of our time we spent in each. Today, we contemplate whether our closets are set up to help us get dressed for each!
.
Does the balance of your wardrobe match your lifestyle needs? Do you have a lot of a dress code you don’t often use? Take a look at the lifestyle areas where our time spend/wardrobe percentage is really off. Now…take a deep breath…and let’s ask WHY? Remember: there are no “wrong” or “bad” answers! When we get honest about our shopping habits, we can strategize to address them!

January Style Reset: Jan 7th.

Week two takes a pivot from dreamy, ideal wardrobe state, and starts the a more logical assessment of your closet. Today, we are determining how many distinct dress codes you have, how often you need each of them, and whether or not our closet reflects those needs.
.
Take out your calendar for this month. Looking at everything you have going on –work, school functions, weekend, brunches, nights out, etc., etc. – how many different dress codes would you say you have? Keep in mind, some of your events may utilize the same “dress code”: for example, I wear the same thing to a school event that I would wear to work. Next, think about what percentage of your time you spend in each of the dress codes for me: I spend about 50% of my time in my elevated casual dress code that I wear to work and school functions; 20% of my time in dressy/social attire; and 30% of my time in comfortable casuals.

We will talk about what to do with these ratios tomorrow!! Happy week one kickoff day!
