Outfit Anatomy: how to pull off a “party pant”.
“Party pants” are the term I use for a fun, statement making bottom. They dominate our Pinterest boards, yet they can be tricky to style in real life. The three keys to pulling off a big, bold pant are:
1. Keeping your top simple. That doesn’t mean boring (my own top has really cool ruching down the middle ) but it *does* mean that we aren’t making too big of a statement up there.
2. Making sure that our shoe elongates the leg line. The quickest way to do this is with a pointed toe heel or bootie.
3. We don’t skip accessories. It might seem like adding extras onto an already commanding look will feel like too much. In reality, adding a few pieces of jewelry and a belt is going to finish out your look a way that makes the whole thing feel cohesive and intentional.

There was a lot more to December than shoe recs and hunting for the perfect men’s denim: perfecting my chili recipe, getting our family portrait painted, enjoying snow days, teaching you all the magic of pizza grilled cheese, matching stripes with 👦🏼 for Christmas Eve mass, lots and lots of travel, clearing Amazon lists for local teachers, moving the damn 🧝 every night. A busy but magic month to end to a wild year!

The holiday season is travel season for my family. To keep things easy and packing a breeze, I keep labeled pouches with toiletries, personal items, etc fully stocked and ready to throw in a suitcase at all times. This is everything I keep in my ‘nightstand’ kit- mini versions of my at-home routine essentials that ensures I’m just as comfortable on the road as I am next to my own nightstand!

2. A big spike in impulse purchases that don’t end up working out.
below our three quick and easy questions, you can ask yourself to make sure that you don’t get caught in classic impulse buying mistakes.

1. CAN I WEAR THIS IN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS?? When we aren’t buying for immediate needs we tend to make bigger swings and forget our core fit and fashion preferences- because the deals are just SOOO good. If you can’t wear it soon, I recommend passing.
2. DO I HAVE ROOM FOR IT? This requires objective, brutal honesty. But we aren’t allowed to buy things that create clutter and chaos in our closets, whether they are 50% off or not!
3. WOULD I CONSIDER IT IF THE SALE PRICE WAS ITS REGULAR PRICE? We need to determine whether you like the item or just the sale sign. So ask yourself: if the price I am paying was the real, full price (without a discount), would I even consider it? Often times we end up overpaying on sale because we are blinded by the red “percentage off” sign.

It happens to ALL OF US: we see a wild trend, shake our head, and say “pass!”. And then, three weeks later…UPS hits our doorstep with the very fashion fad we just swore off. From colors that we don’t love on our skin tones to plus size bag charms and everything in between- we’ve all bought into a trend we later (or immediately) regretted. But…WHY?? And what simple question can we ask ourselves to avoid what I call “the exposure trap?”

Exposure is a key driver for want- the more we see something, the lower our barriers for buying get. Even trends we swear are not for us eventually look appealing when we see them on enough people. It’s how our brains work!!

Every two years we are told to throw out our entire jean lineup and replace it with whatever is currently trending on TikTok. A while ago, everything was distressed.
